How to reach Münster:
1. By Air:
Münster Osnabrück International Airport (FMO) is located around 25 km from Münster’s city center. There are different flights to different European cities.
You can take the express bus or a taxi directly to Münster, which takes about 30 minutes.
If you are traveling outside of Munich, then you can take a flight to Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS) which is around 20 km. From there you can take a train and it takes 1.5 to 2 hours to get to Münster.
2. By Train:
There are regional and High-speed trains by Deutsche Bahn operating on the route to Münster and you can also take a train to neighboring Countries like the Netherlands and Belgium to and from Münster.
3. By Bus
It’s also possible to reach out to Münster using the bus - it’s a budgeted way but takes more time than any other way of reaching Münster.
What to Eat in Münster Christmas Market:
Bratwurst: It’s a grilled sausage served in a crusty roll with Mustard or Ketchup.
Reibekuchen: It’s a crispy potato pancake with applesauce.
Gebrannte Mandeln: It’s a christmas specialty which is sugar-coated roasted almonds.
Lebkuchen: It’s a Gingerbread cookie.
Stollen: It’s a fruit-filled bread dusted with powdered sugar.
Münster Christmas Market:
1. Town Hall Christmas Market (Rathaus Weihnachtsmarkt):
One of the main Christmas Markets in Münster is located near the town hall. It’s one of the oldest markets and attracts around 1 Million visitors every year. The courtyard of the town hall turns into a magical Christmas market decorated with canopy lights.
There are more than 100 Stalls in this market selling different christmas specialties like christmas decor, handmade crafts, lights, candles, jewelry, scarves, and other day-to-day things.
There are also plenty of stalls selling delicious delicacies like Potato pancakes, Sour potatoes, Crepes, Pommes, Pancakes, etc. For the entertainment of kids, there is also a carousel for the kids.
2. Aegidii Christmas Market:
One of the most famous Christmas markets is located in Aegidii Square, It attracts lots of visitors because of its Wooden Pyramid and wonderful magical environment. It presents a nativity scene with a background of glockenspiel music playing every half an hour.
The market is located near a parking place so It would be better if you drive with a car to either start or end your Christmas market tour from here.
The market has a collection of different stalls offering handmade crafts, clothes, and also classical culinary experiences.
One of the most exciting things for the market is solving a scavenger hunt. Every day, the market has hidden 7 fairy characters in the market stalls.
3. The Lichtermarkt at Lamberti Church:
The market was set up for the first time in 1987 and since then it has been placed every year. The market is located near Prinzipalmarkt Lamberti Church. The market has a beautiful ambiance and attractive colors which welcome a lot of visitors.
The unique blue huts with white roof stalls are the significance of the markets. One of the Tallest Christmas trees in Münster is also located in this market. There are around 30 Stalls in the market offering a range of arts and crafts and various culinary options.
4. Giebelhüüskesmarkt:
The market is located near Uberwasser Church between Hindenburgplatz and Domplatz and it’s a bit different than other markets as it's a new Christmas market. It has a charming gabled house which makes it like a fairytale.
There are beautiful stalls set up offering different Christmas decorations. Handcrafts, jewelry, candles, etc. There are also a few stalls offering Christmas specialties like roasted Almonds, waffles, crepes, etc.
5. Christmas Village at Kiepenkerl:
Around the Statue of Münster’s Kiepenkerl, the beautiful christmas village is set up every year. This market is like a village and it is famous for its christmas specialties of Westphalia including Christmas decorations, ceramics, handicrafts, candles, and culinary delicacies.
The wooden stalls are placed in the village. The market is famous for its lively environment.
